We all have moments where we feel we wish we were more positive in situations, here are a few tips on how you can be more positive and feel healthier and happy in all that you do.
Positivity is being able to see the brighter side of life, it is not to be perfect but rather to be happy in life and in what you choose to do in it. Here are 12 ways to be more positive and improve your mood and productivity.
1. Eat Healthy and Exercise
A bit obvious but fueling your body with the right stuff gives off a positive mental attitude knowing your body is free of junk food and other nasties that our body doesn’t need.
Eating right also gives us the healthy balance we need and the energy to go and exercise. It doesn’t need to be much of an exercise, just something that gets your heart rate up a bit or gets you out of the house.
A walk with my dog or my children is my favourite kind of exercise and it helps to promote a healthier outlook on life. It also gets me out and about and socializing with my fellow villagers.
2. Listen to Music
Music is a great way to relieve stress and feel relaxed.
If you are feeling rubbish, put on some music that makes you happy, even if you’re busy at that moment stressing to get things done, if you listen to a great tune while doing it it will make the task easier to bear and put your mind in more of a positive mood and overall, far more productive than being stressed and negative.
You could also try listening to natures sounds. I find listening to thunder and rain helps me be more productive.
3. Surround Yourself with Positive Influences
Positive influences create a positive mindset and atmosphere.
Unfortunately, there are some out there that bring you down, it might not be worth having them in your life if they make you feel bad about yourself. Usually, there is a hidden reason for others to be negative towards you but don’t let it be your problem.
4. Practice Being Positive
It’s no lie that being positive can be challenging at times but, if you put on a smile it will eventually become a real one.
With a little bit of practice, a positive nature will become second nature and it does take some time to get used to it.
5. Set Reachable Goals
In the past, I would set these high goals that were really hard to reach. Why? Beats me! Later I realised that these big goals had smaller much more reachable goals that could be seen as stepping stones to the final goal. Setting reachable goals makes life easier and more manageable. And hey, we’re human, we love to work towards a brighter future!
An easy lesson in life. Remember to SMILE! A smile is infectious and can make another persons’ day. Also, you’d become a positive influence just from being a smiley happy person! Lovely!
7. Challenge Negative Thoughts with Positive Ones
By nature, I was not a naturally positive person. I tried so hard but still had these negative thoughts stopping me from doing things I really wanted to try. Try challenging a ‘what if this doesn’t work out’ with a ‘what if it does’ and see what happens.
8. Share your Issues or Write Them Down
Everyone has issues they have to face but the answer is inside us. I find writing my issues down in a diary or a piece of paper to burn on a bonfire. Some can’t be solved this way but it helps to talk to someone else to gain their views and to clear your mind and heart of negative issues that weigh us down. That’s not to say we should post our hardships all over facebook and twitter, who wants to read negative things, use private chats instead and post the positive outcome 😉
9. Make your Environment Happy to Live in
It doesn’t take much and if you have children like I do, a positive outlook and environment help them to develop in a way any parent would want them to. If your environment is positive, you can smile and be happy a lot of the time without much effort.
A negative environment causes stress and anxiety which can lead to all sorts of health problems. If your environment isn’t happy, start with you and make yourself happy. If you’re not happy, fake it till you make it!
10. Ask ‘Does this really matter?’
I often found myself getting annoyed at simple little fixable things. Asking myself if they actually mattered helped to relieve the stress build up and move on freeing up my mind for more important things!
11. Encourage Others
Encouraging others is a great way to build positive relationships and maintain a positive attitude in life. It could also open new doors both for the people you encourage and for you. We are all much better when we work together.
12. Do Something!
Sitting around waiting for good things to happen doesn’t work. If you want to change and be more positive, do something about it. I know that I have a choice, I can either react to something in a positive way or a negative way, preferably the former. We all choose how we want to be.
